In Memory of Bill McRee
Memorial Service, 14 June 2008
Johnny Stiles and Adam Cloninger, from American Legion Post 240, lead the procession to #1 teebox, followed by the Maiden High Air Force JROTC, the Bill McRee wreath carried by Gwen McRee, Karen Cloninger & Brad McRee, and the Departed Members wreath carried by Charter Members Charlie Abernethy, Lanny Shelton & Bill Berry
Reverend Merlin Batt welcomed the group and dedicated the Garden & Memorials to those we have lost. The McRee family placed Bill’s wreath and each family member placed a single red rose in the wreath. The Charter Members then placed the Glen Oaks Memorial Wreath in honor of all our deceased members.
The colorguard presented the Colors and Johnny Stiles and Adam Cloninger raised the Flag and lowered it to half mast, where it remained through the weekend. Taps was played by Master Sargeant Richard Ault, instructor of the Maiden High AFJROTC.
Ned Jarrett then spoke of fond memories of Bill McRee and gave the Invocation. Reverend Batt followed with the Benediction. The Colors were retired and Joey Kline, bagpiper from the Charlotte Fire Department, played Amazing Grace while the crowd dispersed.
We extend special thanks to Scott Huffman for photographing the event; Reverend Batt, Ned Jarrett, Joey Kline, Johnny Stiles, & MHS AFJROTC for their participation in this special event. Also thanks to Debbie Poovey at Maiden Florist for creating the beautiful floral wreaths.
