Sonoma Golf Club
The club was founded in 1928. Designed by Sam Whiting, the course is widely considered a treasured relic of the golden age of golf architecture. The club, course, and grounds cover 177 acres of land that was originally part of the J.K. Bigelow Ranch. It is a vintage golf club located in the heart of the Sonoma Wine Country. Originally named The Sonoma Mission Inn Golf Club and open to the public, today it is a fine private club for only members and their guests and guests staying at The Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn.
The course is a true test of golf for all levels of play as evidenced by the fact that the club hosted the Charles Schwab Cup Championship from 2003-2009. Winners included Tom Watson and Andy Bean to name a few. Former greats of the game that have frequently played the course during its famed history include Sam Snead, Ken Venturi and Byron Nelson.
Amenities include a pool, tennis courts, fitness center, three spa treatment rooms, indoor and outdoor dining, and a true wine cellar in the basement of the club. The club has a number of local vintners who provide the members with select wines from each year’s harvest. The clubhouse is of classic California Spanish design with many outdoor patios, dining venues and sitting areas.
The club has a newly renovated practice facility with both grass and all-weather tees. The Men’s and Ladies’ locker rooms and golf shop complete the club’s indoor rooms. The membership, which is by-invitation only, includes some premium access to the Spa, dining and fitness facilities at the Fairmont Mission Inn.
