Hole 1 Par 4

Description

Situated high on a moraine hill, this opening par four is visually laid out before the golfer. After the tee shot, the second shot is played downhill with a short to middle iron to a green protected on the left by a pond, and on the right by two sand bunkers. Par is a good start here.

Hole 2 Par 4

Description

A demanding par four played predominantly uphill. A long tee shot is required and should favor the right side of the fairway. This leaves the golfer a long iron or fairway wood approach s hot to a green protected on the left by a swale and on the right by two sand bunkers.

Hole 3 Par 5

Description

A good par five with steep hillsides flanking both sides of the tee shot landing area. Out of Bounds comes into play on the right side for the second shot. Birdie is a possibility on this hole.

Hole 4 Par 4

Description

A difficult par four dogleg right that requires a deftly placed tee shot from an elevated tee. A long iron or fairway wood is recommended from the tee here. The second shot is played with a short to middle iron to a long undulating green protected on the left by wetlands, and on the right by bunkers and trees. Take a par and be very happy.

Hole 5 Par 3

Description

A short par three played with a short to medium iron. The tee shot is played to a green guarded short and right by water and wetlands and on the left by a mature stand of red pine. Accuracy is very important here, and don’t be long.

Hole 6 Par 4

Description

Shortest par four on the course, but definitely not the easiest. It is recommended that long iron or fairway wood be used off the tee on this dogleg right. The landing area is protected on the left by wetlands and on the right by mature red pine. The second shot is played with a medium to long iron to a green protected in front by water and to the right by three mature oak trees. The green is one of the most difficult to putt because of a large swale on its front left side.

Hole 7 Par 5

Description

A long par five that plays uphill off of the tee and into the prevailing wind. The key to the hole is the placement of the second shot. It is played with a long iron or fairway wood to a landing area flanked on both sides by mature oak and hickory trees. The third shot is played to a green shored up by field stone on the left and by sand bunkers to the right and behind. Par is excellent here.

Hole 8 Par 3

Description

A medium length par three played with a short to medium iron. The tee shot must carry a pot bunker in front while also avoiding deep bunkers to the right and behind. Birdie is a possibility here, but don’t fall asleep.

Hole 9 Par 4

Description

A long dogleg right par four that is one of the toughest driving holes on the golf course. The landing area is protected on the left and right by “cages” of mature oak and hickory trees. The second shot is played uphill with a long iron or fairway wood to a green protected on the right and behind by grass and sand bunkers. Par is well deserved.

Hole 10 Par 4

Description

A medium length par four that plays into the wind. This hole required two strong shots to reach a green protected in front, left and behind by water and on the right by a sand bunker. One word of advice: keep your tee shot to the left side of the fairway.

Hole 11 Par 4

Description

A little taste of Scotland on this par four hole. The tee shot is required to be placed between two large moraine hills and it should favor the right side of the fairway to give the golfer the best view of the green. The second shot is played with a middle to long iron to a green guarded in front by shallow pot bunkers and to the left by a very steep hill.

Hole 12 Par 4

Description

The tee shot is played from the top of a moraine hill that is the second highest point in McHenry County, downhill to the landing area. The key to this short par four is club selection off of the tee, and depending on wind conditions a long iron or fairway wood is the recommended weapon. The second shot is played with a middle iron across a lake to the green, which is protected front left by a deep sand bunker. Birdie is a possibility here.

Hole 13 Par 3

Description

A very demanding par three because it requires a long iron tee shot to carry a pond in front of the green. Take a par and run.

Hole 14 Par 4

Description

Medium length par four that is literally cut right through mature forest. The tee shot is played with a driver or fairway wood uphill to a landing area that is narrowed even further by a large hickory tree on the left side of the fairway. The second shot is played downhill with a middle or long iron. Keep the ball below the hole on the green. Four is excellent.

Hole 15 Par 5

Description

A long demanding par five that gives the golfer a bite-off-as-much-as-you-can-chew option off of the tee. Two ponds guard the left side of the fairway and thick mature woods frame and protect the entire right side of the hole. The second shot must be kept short of a creek in front of the green leaving a short iron to the green. Don’t get greedy here because par is a good score.

Hole 17 Par 5

Description

Longest par five on the golf course. The tee shot is played to a landing area that slopes from right to left off of a large moraine hill. The second shot is played with a middle to long iron and must be accurate to avoid wetlands protecting the right side. This leaves a short iron third to a green protected short right by the wetlands and on the left and behind by sand bunkers. Birdie is a possibility here with three well-played shots.

Hole 18 Par 4

Description

Long par four finishing hole that plays downhill and downwind towards the tudor-style clubhouse on the hill. The tee shot must be long and kept between two mature oak trees guarding both sides of the fairway. The second shot is played with a medium to long iron to a green protected short and left by water and to the right by two sand bunkers. Par is a strong way to finish the round.
