The Academy Membership is designed to encourage men and women who have not played golf to take up the great game at an affordable price whilst offering access to coaching and the excellent facilities that Old Fold Manor Golf Club now offers, inclusive of bar and catering discount.
The Academy Membership is available for 2 years.
Year ONE is an introduction at a very affordable price that means you become a member of the golf club with access to the practice facilities and the opportunity to play the main course twice a week.
Year TWO is a transition year to full 5 or 7 day membership at a price that provides a conversion to the full membership subscription, giving more access to the course.
The principle behind the Academy Membership is to encourage players to learn the game, build their skills and most importantly their confidence to play the game.
We have run the Academy with Ladies for the last two years with great success and are now opening it up to everyone.
There are a limited number of Academy Memberships available. For more information please contact Nathan Gilpin at golfopsmanager@oldfoldmanor.co.uk.
TESTIMONIES from Ladies at the Old Fold Manor Academy
“I’m in my second year of the OFMGC Academy and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to start learning golf for the first time or perhaps returning to the sport after a break. Glen Portelli, one of the club’s professionals, runs the Saturday morning academy group lessons and he ensures the lessons are always a lively mix of group and individual games and challenges. My golf has improved and my confidence has grown enormously because of these informative, practical and fun lessons.” (Jane)
“Old Fold Manor Academy has been running now for 3 years. I have been in this since the start and I would recommend any one who would like to learn the game of golf to join. You have coaching for an hour once a week with other academy members, which is done in blocks of 6, where Glen Portelli Old Fold’s Golf professional will teach you all you need to know from the basic fundamentals, to the rules and etiquette of golf, and also an on the course session. When you join as an Academy member, you will be able to play the course at certain times of the week and weekend. So why not join where you will make new friends and hopefully eventually become a lady member.” (Maria)
“So glad I joined the Academy. Glen gives excellent tuition in a fun way which is great for both beginners and improvers.” (Janet)
“The Academy has given me a fantastic opportunity to learn to play golf in a very welcoming and friendly club. Glen has made our lessons really enjoyable. I never ever imagined that I would ever get bitten by the “golf bug”!” (Carole)
“I wasn’t sure about getting into golf but joining the Academy at Old Fold made all the difference. It was great to start with other women new to golf, to learn and develop together in a friendly supportive environment. The regular golf coaching from Glen, the club’s professional, made all the difference and I can see we have all come along really well. I’d encourage anyone interested to give it a try.” (Marion)

If you fancy competitive golf on a super course – and a friendly glass with a great bunch of people – come and join Old Fold Artisans…
Artisan golf was created in the 19th century to give working men the chance to play on good courses affordably. The first Artisan club was founded at the North Devon GC in 1888, under the auspices of the legendary J.H.Taylor, the 5-times Open Champion. He had once been a greenkeeper, and he promoted Artisan golf because he believed that:
“Everyone, regardless of financial standing, should have access to the game of golf”
Gradually, Artisan golf spread throughout the country – usually as a form of associate membership in existing golf clubs.
Typically, Artisans paid a low fee in return for helping to maintain the parent club’s course. This was the case at Old Fold, and it still is. Our Artisan Club was formed in 1946. The club gives us reserved weekday and weekend playing times, and we provide monthly work parties to assist the greens staff.

We play social golf on Tuesday and Friday evenings, and Medal and Stableford competitions at the weekends. We also play club and county knockout competitions and matches against other Artisan clubs throughout the season. We have an extremely hospitable ‘19th hole’, as well.
Will you fit in? Well, our membership covers all walks of life, from tradespeople to office staff, and everything in between. So, if you enjoy a game of golf and like to socialise with easy-going people, we’re sure you’ll feel at home.
If you currently play in a society or have the odd round with friends, but you’d like to find out about playing more often, in a club environment, contact our Hon.Sec., Rick Randall: 07769 049900 or email him at: freddiek26@hotmail.co.uk.
We’d love to hear from you.
